Note: In order to embed live streams YouTube now requires the channel to be in their "Partner Program". One of the requirements for the partner program is "at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 valid public watch hours". If your channel does not meet this requirement the live streaming options here will not work. You can check your eligibility here.
How does it work?
You setup an API key that allows the site to get video information from your YouTube channel. The site will then monitor your YouTube channel looking for an active live stream. When it finds an active live stream it embeds the live stream on your site automatically. Once the live stream has ended it'll automatically add the video to your sermon page using the title from the live stream.
You just live stream your service and it gets added you you website automatically then after the live stream has ended the recorded video gets added to your sermon page automatically.
How so I set it up?
The first step to setting up YouTube live streaming is to create an API key. The video to the right shows how. If you're trying to do this as you watch the video you may need to pause the video from time to time. Sometimes it takes a while for the google pages to load.
To start go here Google APIs developers console create a free account if needed. The video starts at clicking this link from the settings page. And we're already logged in to the google account.
Once you have the API key and your YouTube channel ID (get it here YouTube Advanced Settings ) and saved the settings click the test settings button. If it's a success you can then import your videos as sermons if you'd like. There's also a "Auto import latest uploaded Youtube video as sermon?" option you can turn on to automatically import new videos as sermon automatically. Basically one time per day your site will check youtube for the latest video. If that video hasn't been added to a sermon a new sermon will be created and the video added.
Live Streaming
For live streaming place this code anywhere you'd like the live stream to show.
[cd_youtube_live]
Activate the "Auto-play when a live video is available?" option and set the "Fallback Behavior" that's what the code above will show if there's no a live stream in progress.
Auto Importing Sermons
Once the API connection is complete you can mass import sermons from your youtube channel. Scroll down to the "Import Youtube Videos as Sermons" section and click Load Youtube Videos. The site will connect to youtube and give a list of 50 videos that are not already added to your site. You can click import all to import all of them or click import next to each video you'd like to import. If you have more than 50 videos to import click Load Youtube Videos again to load the next set of videos.
Auto importing new sermons
At the bottom of the youtube settings page you'll see "Auto import latest uploaded Youtube video as sermon?". Set that to on and new sermons added to youtube will be added to your site automatically.
